Casanare has sixteen ecosystems that cover the plain, the highland, the Andean jungles and the paramo. Beef raising is the most important economic line in the region. Oil exploitation in the municipalities of Aguazul and Tauramena and in the Cusiana and Cupiagua fields has been of great importance in recent years, as well as agriculture, mainly with the cultivation of rice, banana, cassava, African palm, fruit trees and cotton.

The Casanareño is an expert craftsman, hunter and fisherman; It stands out for its caney constructions and is traditionalist in celebrating religious holidays such as Holy Week, the festival of Santa Rita, the Day of the Holy Cross and Christmas.

Water Sources

La riqueza hidrográfica es una de las principales cualidades del Casanare. Abundantes ríos, caños, lagunas y humedales (esteros) forman una intrincada red hídrica que provee a los llaneros de excelente biodiversidad de flora y fauna y les sirve como vía de comunicación y transporte durante la temporada de lluvias.

El río Cravo Sur o Cravosur se origina en el municipio de Mongua Boyacá, en el Páramo de Pisba. Tiene 138 kms de longitud que recorren los municipios de Mongua y Labranzagrande, del departamento de Boyacá y Yopal, San Luis de Palenque y Orocué, en el departamento de Casanare y desemboca en el río Meta.

Es uno de los ríos más importantes y caudalosos de Casanare, con un promedio de 151 m3/seg. Debido al relieve de altas pendientes de los cauces y la deforestación sufrida por las crecidas constantes en invierno, tiene un régimen torrencial que da origen a los abanicos aluviales entre el pie de monte y la sabana, como el caso de Yopal.

The Cravo Sur river and the Canacabare channel are vital arteries of the flat land, a source of life and diversity, a common place in the hearts of the llaneros, inspiration for songs and poems, a natural example of greatness that does not succumb to adversity and threat. It is everyone's responsibility to recognize its infinite generosity, protecting its core and making life flourish so that its waters become torrential again and water this beautiful land of opportunities with hope again. These two water sources are the main ones for Savanna Orinoquía Lodge, being located right between the two.
